These are certainly challenging times for all performing arts organizations. The Ohio Light Opera is no exception, but we continue to be grateful for your sustaining financial support, encouragement, and optimism for returning to an in-person season at Freedlander Theatre in 2022.  We are excited to announce that—from July 10 through July 25 this summer—OLO will present a scaled-down season of five programs, fully serving our mission to present the very best in operetta and musical theater, but with limited performances and a reduced artistic and production company.

Per the decision by the College of Wooster Covid Task Force, acting to ensure the safety of the College community, OLO is not permitted to offer in-person performances in Freedlander Theatre.  Instead, we will partner with other non-profits in Wooster, e.g. Wayne Center for the Arts and Main Street Wooster, to present three of our programs—a musical, a musical revue, and a Gilbert and Sullivan work—at community venues.  The two remaining programs—the American  premiere of a rare operetta gem and a concert of music from early musical comedies and rare operettas—will be recorded and streamed from Freedlander Theatre, but without an audience.  All of this will fuel what we will bring to you in a more normal season in the summer of 2022.  For further details on this summer’s program, please see the “Program Descriptions” tab.

While we wish that 2021 could be a normal year, with the ability to operate a full summer schedule void of the constraints related to COVID, we believe that the shortened season in July will be a tremendous success, and we invite you to come along with us on this journey.

We are announcing the performance schedule here, with the aniticipated dates and times.  As with much that has transpired over the past 14 months, we will need to remain flexible, as the schedule (times and locations) could change slightly because of shifts in protocols related to COVID.

Beginning June 1, 2021, you will be able to call the box office at 330.263.2345 or email [email protected] to purchase tickets for the two shows labeled “outdoors” on the calendar.  As you might expect, there will be limited availability, as social distancing protocols will need to be followed. The concerts at Main Street Wooster will be free and open to all, as spacing constraints permit.

Please do not hesitate to visit our website regularly, as we will continually update it as event scheduling and availability become finalized.  And don’t forget to take note, as information is posted, of when the live streaming performances will occur.
