The Ohio Light Opera offers two types of agreements to singers: Resident Young Artist Fellowship and Resident Professional Artist.  Both come with compensation and housing for the entire season.

As our industry has changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have adapted our audition process to reflect current trends. For the 2023 season you may audition:

• In Person – travel to a site, audition live for company artistic staff (accompanist provided)
• Fully Online – upload a complete audition “package” for review*

*If you chose to audition online, our application will ask if you are willing to travel to a live audition IF we wish to consider you for a Resident Professional Artist contract.  We will only ask you to travel if, after reviewing your online submission, we are seriously considering you for a substantial contract with the company (think of it as a call-back).  If you are unable to travel, additional recorded selections may be substituted at our request.

2023 Live Auditions

• New York City, NY – Thursday, November 3rd and Friday November 4th, 2022
• Wooster, OH – Friday, November 11th and Saturday, November 12th, 2022

All applications are due Sunday, October 23rd by midnight eastern time.

If you plan to audition in person, you will be asked to submit:

One vocal selection from the operetta/light opera, operatic, or golden age musical theatre repertoire. Your selection MUST be in English, the language all our productions are presented in. Your selection may be EITHER video or audio.

• One monologue of your choice (60-90 seconds in length), must be in video format
• A current resume
• A recent headshot
• A $20 application fee

After an initial review of your materials, we will invite you to schedule an audition appointment.  If we have more live audition requests than space and time at an audition site, your initial materials will serve as a pre-screening for the live audition.

If you plan to audition fully online, you will be asked to submit:

• Two contrasting vocal selections from the operetta/light opera, operatic, or golden age musical theatre repertoire. At least ONE selection MUST be in English, the language all our productions are presented in.  Your selections MUST be in video formation.
• One monologue taken from our selection of provided monologues. Please choose one from the list that most closely aligns with the gender you feel most comfortable representing on stage: Man or Woman.
• A current resume
• A recent headshot
• A $20 application fee

After an initial review of your online application, we may request additional submissions based on positions we may be considering you for within the season.  These may include a request to audition in person (if able), additional vocal selections, and/or a short movement combination (instructional materials would be provided).
